Waterford in the largest city in Ireland to retain its Viking name (Vedrarford.) Waterford is also Ireland's oldest city and has the oldest urban civic building in Ireland, Reginald's Tower. To the west of the city is Woodstown, which is also the largest 9th century Viking settlement in the whole of Europe. Through the middle of the city runs the River Suir and it is this river that has given Waterford a long maritime history.
