Situated on the coast, Swansea sits in arguably the most picturesque part of South Wales and is said to have been founded by a Viking King of Demark, Sweyn Forkbeard. There are a number of theatres in the city including the Victorian Grand Theatre whose programme includes pantomime, opera and ballet. Oystermouth Castle regularly stages Shakespeare’s plays; this 12th Century Norman ruin overlooks Swansea Bay and is considered the finest surviving castle on the Gower Peninsula. Singleton Park also hosts a number of concerts and outdoor events such as Party in the Park.
