Even though it is quite small, Sunningdale has had more than its share of famous residents. Possibly the most famous was the mystery writer Agatha Christie, who lived here in the ‘20s, and it was from here that she made her famous disappearing act. She vanished for 11 days on the 3 December 1926 and reappeared having no memory of where she had been; at the time it caused quite a stir and made for a national scandal. Recently her disappearance was used as a plot device in Dr Who where it was revealed that her disappearance was in fact down to aliens. Not quite so famous Chesney Hawkes and the band Five Star came from the area.
