Stapleford is 6 miles from the centre of Nottingham. Its roots are thought to lie in Norman times, with a Stone Cross, thought to be the oldest Christian Memorial in the Midlands. Being located near to the River Trent meant Stapleford was an ideal point for trade, expanding widely in the 18th century. One such trade was the stocking hose industry. With many original stocking knitters houses dotted around the area, Stapleford was one of the largest suppliers of stockings to the Midlands and beyond. Stapleford Hill is also home to the 200 million year old Hemlock Stone.
