The Northampton suburb of Kingsthorpe was once a village and is met by the River Nene, the ninth longest river in the UK. Joan Hickson, who played TV’s Miss Marple was born in the village. Kingsthorpe is also home to a Golf Club, which is 100 years old. Founded by a group of bank employees it originally had 9 holes, until another 18-hole course was built on the outskirts of the town. The competitive club also hosts a range of social activities as well as winning the Hollingsworth trophy several times. Set in 73 acres, the Parkland course is one of the smallest 18-hole courses in the UK.
