Domino’s Gwent is near the Shaftsbury district of Newport. The town is on the River Usk, which has its source in the Carmarthen Fans Mountains of mid-Wales, through the western part of the Brecon Beacons. The river is a Site of Special Scientific Interest as it contains a range of mudflats, bog and marshland, lagoons, grassland and woodland. Various species of fish including trout, salmon, perch and chub as well kingfishers and herons are all found in and around the river. The Usk is also featured in a tale of King Arthur, where Gawain, the King’s nephew, pushes Arthur into the river.
