Navan is one of the few places in the world to have a palindromic name - meaning it is spelt the same backwards or forwards. It is also the largest town in County Meath in Ireland; Navan lies at the bottom of the Boyne Valley at the meeting place of the River Boyne and the River Blackwater. Nearby are the neolithic monuments of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth of the 'Bru na Boinne', one of the largest and most important neolithic sites in Europe. The builders of these monuments displayed a sophisticated knowledge of science and astronomy and the monuments themselves predate the building of the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Also nearby is the town of Kells where 'The Book of Kells' was kept until recently.
