Naas is the largest town in County Kildare and serves as a commuter town to nearby Dublin. The Irish name for the town is 'Nas na Riot' which means 'Meeting Place of the Kings', and this was indeed the place where the old Irish Kings would convene. After the Norman invasion, Naas continued to live up to its name and was a meeting place for the English parliament. Although during World War II Ireland was neutral, there was a internment camp here at Curragh Prison, where soldiers from the warring states (UK, Germany & America) would find themselves if caught on Irish soil. A film The Brylcreem Boys was made about the camp in the 1990s.
