On the fringe of Greater London lies Thames Ditton, which even though part of the metropolis, proudly maintains its ‘village’ character. In the 18th century highwaymen plagued the village, so much so that the inhabitants called for an organised police force. Now the town may be remembered as the location for the Monty Python sketch ‘Blackmail’, although the actual scene was filmed in London. Thames Ditton High Street was also used for the external shots of ‘80’s sitcom After Henry. Recently it is more likely to have been spotted in the TV comedy sketch show Little Britain, which often films around Ditton Library.
