Sidcup, a suburb of London, used to house many stately homes. They are mostly long gone but in their wake many large parks and open spaces remain, making Sidcup a pleasant area to live. Some of these manors still stand although they are now used for other purposes. For example, Lamorbey House is now used as Rose Bruford College theatre school, which has produced some great actors. One of the most famous is Gary Oldman who most recently appeared in Harry Potter as Sirius Black. Children’s book illustrator Quentin Blake, who illustrated many of Roald Dahl’s books, was born and lived here. He was appointed an OBE in 1988.
