Originally described as a scattered village, it wasn’t until the opening of the station that the community of East Ham really came together. Nowadays the community here is close-knit and multicultural, with large numbers of South Asian, Afro-Caribbean and European residents. There are still many traditional East End eateries including the century-old Robin, which still sells pie and mash. However East Ham isn’t considered part of the historic East End but is part of greater London.
