On the Bishop of London’s old hunting grounds stands East Finchley. Outside the tube station is the iconic statue of an ancient wild archer which was commissioned from sculptor Eric Aumonier in 1939; it is the only three dimensional sculptor on the tube network and stands at twice normal size. The archer’s arrow rested at Morden station further down the line, after having presumable been shot. Unfortunately the statue proved so popular that someone stole the original arrow. Famous comedic actor Peter Sellers lived here and, perhaps more surprisingly, Jerry Springer, American politician and talk show host, was born here – in the actual station – during World War II.
