In the north east corner of Kent, in the valley of the River Darent, lies the town of Dartford. The first people to appear here were hunter gathers around 250,000 years ago and since then the town has grown to be an important religious, cultural and industrial area. Due to its location on a popular medieval pilgrim route, numerous religious groups were located here; there were Dominican and Franciscan friars, and the Knights Templar even had a centre here. Mick Jagger was born here and there is now a community centre for the arts named after him. Keith Richards was also born here but sadly has no arts centre named after him.
