Crouch End lies in a valley between London’s Finsbury Park, to the west, and Wood Green, to the north. Originally Crouch End was nothing but a small hamlet on an old medieval route into the metropolis; nowadays it has a busy shopping centre and many restaurants. There is also a thriving music scene here. The local symphonic Crouch End Festival Chorus (famed for its innovative repertoire) have performed on over 60 CDs and recently recorded for the Doctor Who soundtrack. Horror writer Stephen King stayed in Crouch End with friend and co-author, Peter Straub. He even wrote a story for his collection Nightmares & Dreamscapes called Crouch End.
