The name “Bayswater” originates from a guy called Baynard, who was a tenant here after the Norman Conquest. His name was associated with an area at Paddington, which had excellent springs of fresh water - so we get ‘Baynard’s Water’ which later became Bayswater. Domino’s Pizza is in Westbourne Park Road – this is named after the River Westbourne, which flows from Hampstead under Sloane Square and into the River Thames at Chelsea. Did you know that there are no houses behind the doors at 23 and 24 Leinster Gardens? In the 1930s guests were sold tickets to a ball at these dummy houses at 10 guineas each. Guests arrived in full evening dress only to realise, when they knocked, it was a prank.
