One of Keighley’s outstanding buildlings is East Riddlesden Hall. Owned by the National Trust, it overlooks the River Aire and was built in 1642 by James Murgatroyd. It features a walled garden and two Gothic-style Yorkshire Rose windows. The Murgatroyd family is said to be the inspiration for the Murgatroyd Baronets from the Gilbert and Sullivan opera Ruddigore. The Hall was used as a location in the film Wuthering Heights and the TV series Sharpe’s Justice. The paranormal show Most Haunted also filmed there after hearing about rumours of several ghosts that inhabit the Hall.
