The City of Kingston upon Hull has had a thriving music scene for decades. Musicians who come from Hull include Everything But the Girl; Paul Heaton of The Housemartins, and The Beautiful South and Roland Gift, who formed The Fine Young Cannibals. Poet Peter Porter describes Hull as ‘the most poetic city in England’, while Phillip Larkin wrote such poems as ‘The Whitsun Weddings’ and ‘Toads’ (among others) about the City.
