Known as ‘Chipping Wycombe’ until the early 20th century High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire has a market that has existed since Medieval times. Although it has a long history (Roman villas and bathhouses have been excavated here) it is also famous for its furniture industry, which began in the 19th century, so much so that even the local football team is affectionately nicknamed the ‘chairboys’. To the east of the town is the beautiful Rye Park on the River Rye, which has an open-air swimming pool and attracts large crowds throughout the summer.
