The Derbyshire town of Heanor was built on coal mining and textiles and was once home to the Matthew Walker factory, the famous producer of Christmas puddings. Heanor also has its own football club, known as ‘The Lions’, which has been running since 1883. The town’s most famous resident was a Jesuit Priest called Henry Garnett. He was executed for his involvement in the London Gunpowder Plot of 1605 when he was charged for not reporting the plan which was revealed to him as part of a confessional.
