On the site of the Roman Antonine Wall, just outside of Glasgow, is the town called Bearsden. The Antonine Wall itself has been here since its construction began in 138 AD. It is made from stone and turf and was built in the reign of the Roman King Antoninus Pius. This wall was supposed to replace Hadrian's Wall as the boundary between Britannia (Britain) and Caledonia (Scotland). Although considerably shorter than Hadrian's Wall, the Antonine Wall was equally impressive especially considering it was built in the space of only two years. Bearsden is also the birthplace of Alex Kapranos, of indie favourites Franz Ferdinand, and Tommy Cunningham, the drummer for 'Wet Wet Wet'.
