Leith Walk is famed for being one of the Edinburgh’s longest streets. The road itself leads from the centre of the city to Leith, at the mouth of the Water of Leith River, and what is the port of Edinburgh. On this street is the office of computer games designer Rockstar North who designed and created the hugely popular, and sometime controversial, Grand Theft Auto games series. In one of the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Leith Links Park is honoured as the Leith Links Country Club within the game itself. Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh was born in Leith. In 2011 Leith Walk will become part of the new Edinburgh tram network, which will cost an estimated £512 million to build.
