In Palaeolithic times men may have wandered around Dunstable with one of the crafted flints found nearby. And in 571 AD Saxons swarmed all over the place. Nowadays you’re more likely to see motorcars than Saxons though as Waterlows and Vauxhalls were built here until their factory closures. If you visit the Priory Church you will be standing in the place where King Henry VIII finalised his divorce with Catherine of Aragon. In the 15th century the famous composer John Dunstable was likely to have been born here; more recently another musician, Damon ‘Badly Draw Boy’ Gough, was also born here.
