Daventry is dominated by the 199m high Borough Hill. Here archaeologists have found the remains of one of the largest hill forts in Britain, dating back 5,000 years, as well as a Roman Villa. Local legend has it that early settlers planted an oak tree on the summit of Borough Hill to mark the centre of England. 1,000 years later, in 1925, the BBC decided to build a transmission station with, in 1952, a stonking 720ft mast (the mast was removed thirty years later). Now Borough Hill is a great place to take in the stunning views across the countryside – and to enjoy a walk and a picnic. It’s a perfect spot for Domino’s pizza.
