Known for its railway production in the 1800’s the County Durham town of Darlington has connections to many famous people throughout the years, including such funny men as Mark Gatiss from The League of Gentleman and Doctor Who, and comic presenter, writer and performer, Vic Reeves. The town still pays homage to its part in the birth of the railways with several train and railway museums and a life-size brick sculpture of a steaming locomotive. The piece of work is a striking image of a locomotive emerging from a tunnel by the artist David Mach which was unveiled in 1997 and sits alongside the A66.
