Radford's greatest claim to fame is that it is regarded as the birthplace of the British motor car industry. In 1896 ‘The Great Horseless Carriage Company’ was established in a converted cotton mill between St. Nicholas Street, Sandy Lane and the Coventry Canal. When Daimler took over, the factory was greatly extended to incorporate entrances on both Sandy Lane and Middlemarch Road. After a merger in 1960, the factory became home to Jaguar, who remained there till production ceased in the mid-1990s. You can find Domino’s in Jubilee Crescent, so named to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935.
