Rumney is a fairly new suburb of Cardiff and is a neighbour to Llanrumney. Both were rural parishes and are now highly desirable places to live with thriving communities. A well-known local character born in the area is Sir Henry Morgan who joined a ship to Barbados, but was sold into slavery. He worked out of bondage and eventually became the leader of a gang of pirates. He was captured but managed to convince Charles II to free him and he became Deputy Governor to Jamaica, later lending his name to a famous brand of rum. Local landmarks include the 12th Century St Augustine Church.
