West Belfast is home to the principal Gaelic Athletic Association stadium, Casement Park. It houses the Antrim football and hurling teams and is named after Sir Roger Casement, one of the participants of the 1916 Easter Rising, one of the most significant uprisings against the British since 1798. It has a capacity of 32,000 people and opened in 1953. In 2000 it underwent major renovation and some years later, floodlights were added to enable evening football and hurling. The Park has hosted eight Ulster football finals and after first opening saw Armagh beat Cavan.
