St Budeaux is an area in Plymouth named after St Budoc, the Bishop of Dol in Brittany, in around 480 AD. At this time there would have been nothing more than a small church, dedicated to St Budoc, and a small settlement. In the Doomsday Book the village was called Bucheside and was valued at 30 shillings - a lot more than the neighbouring villages. During the Civil War Plymouth was besieged by Royalist Cornwall who used the church as a garrison. During World War II the area, along with many in Plymouth, was heavily bombed due to their proximity to Devonport Dockyard.
