Mutley is a busy Victorian suburb of Plymouth in Devon. In the past the main high street would have been a Roman road stretching from Bilburgh, a Roman settlement on the coast, to Plymouth itself. In the Victorian era, Mutley would have been a lush, tree-lined avenue although now it sports a number of plush shopping arcades. The area became popular when the South Devon Railway built the station in 1871. It became known as ‘The Gentry’s Station’ because it served the then affluent districts of Mutley and Mannamead. Nowadays Mutley has become a popular haunt for students and now has eleven themed pubs and bars.
