Close to Brighton & Hove city, it is believed that there has been a settlement at Peacehaven here since at least 3500 years ago. At the top of the cliff there is a Bronze Age barrow, or burial mound, where many Bronze and Stone Age remains have been found. Peacehaven itself has only existed since 1916 when its founder Charles Neville purchased the land on which the town now rests. The town appeared in Graham Greene’s 1938 novel ‘Brighton Rock’. More recently, in 1998, it appeared on popular soap ‘Eastenders’ as the site where Tiffany’s ashes were scattered.
