Hasting in East Sussex is most famous for the ‘Battle of Hastings’ in 1066. The town became one of the five main Norman ports after the invasion. Now it is a thriving seaside resort and attracts many tourists throughout the year. The town is considered a historic site in its own right but Hastings Pier and the remains of the castle are certainly iconic. The latter sits on sandstone cliffs on as the Weald, where Hastings Sand meets the English Channel. Numerous famous people have settled in Hastings such as John Logie Baird, the inventor of the television, and Rider Haggard, the author of popular adventure novel ‘King Solomon’s Mines’ and more recently novelist Catherine Cookson and comedienne Jo Brand lived here.
