Frome in Somerset is near to the Mendip Hills and Bath. Nowadays Bath is a bigger town but up until 1650’s Frome was much larger due to its thriving weaving industry. Amongst the Georgian terraces smaller weaver’s cottages can still be seen to this day. The town is built on uneven ground on the banks of the River Frome and was named Frome Selwood after the neighbouring Selwood forest. Amongst the quaint cottages and houses there are occasional cave-like entrances and it is believed that underneath the town centre is a network of tunnels. What the purpose of these tunnels may have been is still a mystery. Charlie Higson, from the award-winning comedy show ‘The Fast Show’, was born in Frome in 1958.
