Cheltenham Spa, has been a holiday and health destination since 1716 with many natural springs running under the town. In fact the River Chelt, which gives the town its name, runs under the town itself. Every year there are numerous music, literary and science festivals here. Drawing still more crowds are the famous Cheltenham Races. Many famous people have come from Cheltenham including the oddball ski jumper Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, original Rolling Stone Brian Jones and the eccentric Richard O'Brien who wrote the notorious Rocky Horror Picture Show. More recently local band The Machiavellis have been creating quite a stir.
