Emerson's Green is a residential area to the north of Bristol developed from farming land in the 90's. It sits between the historic villages of Mangotfield and Downend. Neighbouring Mangotsfield has a 13th century church and was the birthplace of Aston Villa striker Gary Penrice who is something of a local hero. Downend is a very 'sporty' place and singers Sarah Dallin and Karen Woodward, from Bananarama, grew up there. Soon there will be a £300 million science park built here making this the scientific centre of Bristol, which already has a thriving aerospace industry.
