Bournemouth is a seaside town on the south coast. Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, settled here in the beautiful Boscombe Manor and rather gruesomely (and in a suitably gothic fashion) the heart of her husband, the famous romantic poet Percy Shelley, is buried in St Peter's Church along with Mary herself. Oscar Wilde was taught in Bournemouth, as was Paul Verlaine, the French poet and confidant of Arthur Rimbaud. There are award-winning gardens and the fresh sea air is often tinged with the smell of pine from the trees all around. The sea here certainly inspires and Robert Louis Stevenson wrote 'Kidnapped' in his house 'Skerryvore' on the west cliff.
