Bognor Regis is a well-known and lively English seaside resort. Bognor is one of the oldest place names in Sussex and was a Saxon encampment, the 'Regis' only being added in 1928 when King George V visited and staying in the local Craigwell House. In the 1700's it was a fishing village infamous for its smuggling. The annual Bognor Rox festival takes place on the Bognor Prom where two stages are set up for artists to perform. Another yearly attraction is the tongue-in-cheek 'Birdman' competition where contestants launch themselves off the pier in homemade flying machines including celebrities such as Richard Branson.
