Bexhill-on-Sea is a flourishing seaside resort in East Sussex. In the past, smuggling was rife in area and in 1828 a gang called the Little Common Gang became involved in the Battle of Sidley Green. Although the Germans were sent to protect the population from the French it appears that many of the locals were secretly trading with the enemy. Internationally famous comedian Eddie Izzard was brought up here and Desmond Llewelyn, ('Q' in the James Bond films) lived here until his death in 1999. Down the road lived argumentative restaurant critic and pioneering TV chef, Fannie Cradock, with her husband Johnnie.
